Player to Watch!!

With the Chippewas starting the season 0-8, some could say the team is off to a slow start, but one player is picking up right where she left off last season. Coming off a season in which she received Second Team All-MAC honors, Kaysie Gregory, has been one of the few bright spots for the Chippewas so far.

The Senior from Rome, NY, is looking to improve on a year in which she played in all 19 games, starting in 18 of those games for a team who went on to win the MAC. She also finished second on the team in goals (6), tied for the team lead in points (19), and actually led the team in assists (7).

Fast forwarding to this season, Kaysie is looking to expand on her stats from last season by already tying her record with 6 goals through 8 games.  The midfielder has also accounted for half of her team's point by posting 14 up until this point. Although her assists (2) are down a little from last year, look for those to increase as the season goes on.

With conference play just underway, look for the Chippewas to continue to look to their senior leader for guidance. The team starts a series of home games tomorrow with Pacific (5-4) at 3:00, in which they are hoping to receive their first win.

From New York to New Zealand: a diverse group of girls

Seeing as though Central Michigan University is located in the heart of Michigan, you would think that you could safely assume that the majority of the women’s field hockey team would be Michigan natives. Surprisingly enough, however, that is not at all the case with this year’s team roster.

In fact, of the twenty-three members of the CMU women’s field hockey team only two of the girls can call Michigan their home. The other twenty-one members have hometowns which have brought them to Mount Pleasant from not only across the country, but also from across the globe.

Originally from Wellington, New Zealand, sophomore Harriet Aburn earns the title of the farthest traveled team member. However, Aburn is not the only international team member. Junior, Maude Stalars is also an international student originally from Rhode-Saint-Genese, Belgium. Other members of the team originally from out of the state also call Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Delaware, Illinois, Missouri, New York and Wisconsin home.

Such a diverse group of girls makes for a cultured team and a varied set of experiences and skill levels. However, it is apparent from the 2015 CMU women’s field hockey team roster that no matter where you come from or where you go, the game of field hockey remains the same.
